2027 Obamacare premium increases: what's changing

The numbers behind the headlines — with sources.

Nationally: a median increase of about 15%

KFF reports insurers sought a median premium increase of about 15% for 2027 (KFF). Most enrollees still get a subsidy that cushions the impact, but people above 400% of the federal poverty level no longer qualify and pay the full cost. That's the 2027 subsidy cliff.

Oklahoma premiums: up 20.1% on average

According to healthinsurance.org, the average 2027 ACA marketplace rate increase in Oklahoma is 20.1%. Averages hide a lot: your change depends on your carrier, plan, age, county, and whether you qualify for premium tax credits.

Out-of-pocket maximum: $12,000 / $24,000

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) set the 2027 maximum out-of-pocket limit at $12,000 for an individual and $24,000 for a family. That's the most you could pay for covered in-network care in a year, on top of premiums.
